The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating an incident involving off-duty officers and a male.

On Dec. 14, the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) notified the IIU of an incident that occurred on the same day. According to the notification, an adult male contacted the WPS stating he had been assaulted by two males, believed to be off-duty police officers, at an establishment in the 1600 block of Main Street.

WPS responded to the call, met with the male and reviewed surveillance video. The video showed an altercation between the male and two off-duty police officers.

The male suffered minor injuries as a result of the altercation.

The civilian director has determined it is in the public interest for the IIU to investigate.
