Steinbach RCMP are reporting that a male suspect has recently been arrested and charged in connection to a police investigation involving a number of vehicle thefts that occurred in the Pansy area.

On December 29, 2023, at approximately 6am, Steinbach RCMP responded to a call of a stolen vehicle in the Pansy area. Members arrived on scene and learned that the complainant woke up to a car engine revving loudly in the driveway. Officers say that the complainant then observed that one of the two vehicles in the driveway was gone and a different one was stuck in the driveway.

Moments later, police received a second call of someone attempting to steal a vehicle in the same area, but when confronted by the owner, the suspect took off on foot.

Officers were eventually able to locate footprints, and with the assistance of the RCMP Police Dog Service, a 26-year-old male suspect, from Lake St. Martin, was apprehended while hiding in a parked truck in the same area.

RCMP report that the suspect in custody is currently facing charges of theft of motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime and mischief. A second suspect still remains to be located.
