Steinbach RCMP have recently arrested and charged a 30-year-old Grunthal man after the suspect rammed into a police vehicle while attempting to avoid capture by officers.

On December 29, 2023, at approximately 11:55pm, Steinbach RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle on Highway 52 in Mitchell. Checks on the vehicle determined that it was stolen.

Officers made patrols in the area, but were unable to locate the vehicle at this time. Police say that a second call was received, at approximately 1:05am, advising that the vehicle had been seen on Road 19N, in the RM of De Salaberry.

Steinbach and St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP responded and located the vehicle. Members attempted to conduct a traffic stop at this time, but the vehicle fled and subsequently collided head-on with one of the marked police vehicles.

Police say that the driver of the stolen vehicle was arrested and taken to hospital as a precaution. The officer involved in the collision was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a loaded rifle, an imitation handgun and prescription drugs.

RCMP report that 30-year-old Kyle Enns, of Grunthal, is now facing numerous firearms related offences, as well as charges that include dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and flight from a police officer.
