The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest of an adult male in Winnipeg.

On January 31, the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) notified the IIU of an incident that resulted in an injury requiring medical attention. According to the notification, on January 30 at approximately 9pm, members of the WPS attended a residence in the 600 block of Agnes Street to apprehend an adult male wanted on four warrants. Upon arrival, officers were informed that the male was on the second-floor balcony. As officers approached the male he jumped and landed on the ground below. The male was arrested and subsequently transported to Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg, where it was confirmed that he had suffered a fracture to his leg.

As the injuries are defined as a serious injury under the IIU regulation, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
