Selkirk RCMP are currently investigating a recent armed robbery incident that occurred in the community. One suspect has been arrested and police are asking the public for any information that may help identify a second suspect involved.

On February 27, 2024, at approximately 9:30pm, Selkirk RCMP received a report of a robbery with a firearm at a location outside of a business on Main Street in Selkirk.

Police say that an 18-year-old female, from the RM of St. Andrews, was leaving the business when she was approached by two males who produced a firearm and demanded her keys. The suspects then fled in her vehicle, heading west on Strathnaver Avenue.

Officers patrolled the area and located the vehicle heading south on Highway 9 near Lower Fort Garry. A traffic stop was initiated, but the vehicle did not stop. The vehicle continued to drive at a regular speed with police following. Eventually, the vehicle slowed, moved to the shoulder, and entered the ditch on Henderson Highway.

RCMP report that the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 14-year-old male youth, was arrested. The youth has been charged with robbery with an offensive weapon, possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose, flight from a peace officer, and uttering threats against a person. He was remanded in custody.
