Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP are reporting that a 31-year-old Portage la Prairie man, with numerous outstanding warrants of arrest, was recently arrested and charged after trying to evade police capture.

During a recent patrol in Ebb and Flow First Nation, RCMP members observed a 31-year-old male suspect, known to have several outstanding warrants of arrest, driving in the community. Officers attempted a traffic stop unsuccessfully, and due to public safety concerns, a pursuit was not initiated.

Police say that the suspect vehicle was later located a short distance away in the ditch at the end of a dead-end road. The suspect had subsequently fled on foot, but was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.

A 29-year-old female passenger, from Ebb and Flow First Nation, was arrested on scene and later released for a future court date in Dauphin.

A search of the vehicle by RCMP members led to the seizure of a loaded sawed-off shotgun.

RCMP report that 31-year-old Jesse St. Paul, of Portage la Prairie, is now facing multiple charges related to this incident, including operation while prohibited, flight from police, and numerous firearms-related offences.
