Manitoba RCMP are reporting that additional resources have been sent to the Lac du Bonnet area to ensure the safety of residents and the security of property.
Officials say that these additional resources include a team of 12 highly trained officers from the Manitoba RCMP Search and Rescue Unit, as well as officers from Traffic Services, and nearby detachments.
The additional officers are assisting with evacuations, patrolling evacuated areas, and providing any other support required by local authorities.
“For everyone’s safety, we ask that people follow the direction of officers who are on scene and to stay away from evacuated areas until they are notified that it is safe to return,” said Staff Sergeant Cory Meyers, of the Manitoba RCMP Lac du Bonnet detachment. “We also want to make it very clear that we have officers actively patrolling evacuated areas and that we will not tolerate any criminal activity.”
For the safety of residents and to ensure properties are secured, RCMP have also established roadblocks along multiple points of Highway 313. Only emergency personnel will be allowed to pass through these roadblocks.
