Oakbank RCMP are reporting that a 42-year-old Winnipeg man has died as the result of a collision between a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and an off-road vehicle (ORV) at a location on Highway 44 in the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead.
On June 17, 2025, at approximately 2:20pm, Oakbank RCMP received a report regarding a collision on Highway 44, at Road35E. Members responded immediately, along with Emergency Medical Services and the local fire department.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed a damaged SUV sitting off the road in the grass. As well, an ORV was discovered on its side in the middle of the road in the westbound lane of Highway 44.
Further investigation revealed that the SUV was traveling west on Highway 44 when the ORV attempted to cross the road northbound from Road35E, hitting the SUV on the front driver side.
RCMP report that the driver of the SUV, a 39-year-old female from Beausejour, was transported to hospital with minor injuries. The two female occupants of the SUV, also from Beausejour, were not injured. The driver of the ORV, a 42-year-old Winnipeg man, was pronounced deceased on scene. The passenger of the ORV, a 32-year-old male from Winnipeg, was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
