The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating serious injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision on Provincial Road (PR) 304, south of Hollow Water First Nation.
On Sept. 4, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) notified the IIU about an incident that occurred that same day at approximately 5:30 a.m. According to the notification, an adult male was involved as a suspect in a serious incident that had taken place in Hollow Water First Nation. The male reportedly stole a vehicle and fled the community at a high rate of speed on PR 304, just south of Hollow Water First Nation he collided with a police vehicle injuring a police officer. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.
As the incident involved serious injuries as defined under the IIU regulation, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
