The province has announced that it is contributing $354,000 toward a walking and cycling path in Ste. Anne through the Manitoba Growth, Renewal and Opportunities for Municipalities (Manitoba GRO) program.
“Ste. Anne is growing rapidly, and we are pleased to help bring a safe and accessible transportation route for seniors in the personal care home, students and everyone in Ste. Anne to live a healthy lifestyle and connect with each other,” said Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard. “Funding through the Manitoba GRO program helps municipalities like the Town of Ste. Anne advance critical infrastructure and supports growing and sustainable communities across the province.”
Manitoba GRO is an application-based program available to all municipalities outside Winnipeg, which provides up to 50 per cent of total eligible project costs for infrastructure projects related to renewal, innovation and climate resiliency.
The Town of Ste. Anne applied for GRO funding for Phase 2 of the Traverse Road active transportation project, which involves the construction of a new path along Traverse Road, as well as upgraded land drainage and storm sewers along the route. The path will extend south from Centrale Avenue to a new grocery store that opened in 2024. The project is part of the town’s master recreation plan, which aims to expand active transportation routes throughout the community, noted the minister.
