A 33-year-old Ste. Anne man was recently arrested and is currently facing numerous charges after acting aggressively and assaulting a local RCMP officer at the Steinbach detachment.

On September 21, 2025, at 9:30am, Steinbach RCMP were approached by a male suspect outside a business located on Highway 12 North. As the man approached, he quickly became belligerent and started to utter threats and act erratically towards the officers.

Police say that the male was placed under arrest, but resisted and assaulted an officer in the process. He was then taken into custody and transported to the Steinbach RCMP detachment where he continued to act aggressively, assaulting another officer and uttering additional threats.

Hours later, the suspect demonstrated calm behaviour and was taken to a secure room to place a call. Upon entering the room, the man became agitated once again and caused significant damage inside the room. Officers were able to gain control and transfer him back to a cell.

RCMP report that 33-year-old Gilbert Ste-Marie, from the RM of Ste. Anne, was remanded into custody and charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting a peace officer, uttering threats, and mischief under $5,000.
