A labour disruption at Canada Post is preventing delivery of Manitoba Hydro paper bills and customers’ payments, the utility said. It advises customers not to put payment cheques in the mail during a strike.

Customers are responsible for making payments on time during a postal strike. They can avoid delays, missed payments and late payment charges by signing up for an online account. Customers can view their account balance and bill due date online.

Customers can set up pre-authorized payments through their online account to avoid forgetting to make a payment.

Payment can also be made in person or online through the customer’s bank or credit union.

Customers with an online account can continue to receive a paper bill if they wish.

For customers who choose not to set up an online account, Manitoba Hydro offers a self-service phone channel 1-888-MB HYDRO (1-888-624-9376). The automated system will provide account balance and due date. Customers will need their 14-digit account number.

Customers can choose to speak to a customer service representative. This will likely involve waiting on hold for a period of time due to higher call volumes.

Anyone having trouble making full payment on time can seek a payment arrangement with Manitoba Hydro.

All these services are available on the Manitoba Hydro app or by phone at 1-888-MB HYDRO (1-888-624-9376).
