Elections Manitoba has announced that Shipra Verma, Chief Electoral Officer of Manitoba, will be leaving her role effective November 10, 2025 after 21 years with Elections Manitoba.

“Leading this esteemed organization for nearly two decades has been one of the greatest honours of my professional life,” said Ms. Verma. “Over these years, I have had the privilege of working with dedicated legislators, Assembly staff, and an exceptional team committed to upholding the values of democracy. I am immensely proud of the strides we have made together in modernizing the electoral process in Manitoba to meet the evolving needs of our society, while safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.”

Ms. Verma was appointed as CEO since 2013, after being appointed acting CEO in 2010. Ms. Verma has led Elections Manitoba through a comprehensive transformation, bringing an innovative approach to election modernization focused on service and accessibility.

Under The Elections Act, the Standing Committee on Legislative Affairs will begin considering candidates for the office of Chief Electoral Officer and make a recommendation to the Legislative Assembly. The Assembly will then appoint a new CEO.

Ms. Verma is committed to ensuring a smooth transition at Elections Manitoba. She will work closely with the Elections Manitoba leadership team to facilitate continuity and stability. Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Tracy Nylen will be serving as Acting CEO in this period. Ms. Nylen had previously served as Director of Election Financing and has 19 years of electoral finance and administration experience.
