Stonewall RCMP are reporting that a male suspect, involved in numerous vehicle theft incidents, was located and captured with the assistance of Police Service Dog Stewie.

On October 20, 2025, at 12:15pm, Gimli RCMP received a report of a white Ford F250 that had been stolen from a property located on Highway 9 in the RM of Gimli.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers located an abandoned vehicle on the property. Police say that the vehicle had been previously reported stolen earlier the same morning from a residence located on Britannia Close in Selkirk.

Throughout the day, multiple sightings of the stolen Ford F250 were reported to police. Reports indicated that the pickup truck was seen causing mischief to properties and driving dangerously in the Interlake area.

At 5pm, the truck was abandoned on a property on Elderberry Bay in Fisher Branch. At this point, the suspect stole a GMC Sierra. At 6pm, Gimli RCMP received a report of a stolen Ford F150 that had just occurred. it was noted that the stolen GMC Sierra had been abandoned on the property.

Officers were able to locate the Ford F150 in the RM of Rockwood, however the driver failed to stop.

At 8:37pm, Stonewall RCMP were notified of a break and enter in progress at a residence on Road 87N in the RM of Rockwood. RCMP officers from Stonewall and Selkirk, along with Police Dog Services, responded immediately.

Upon arrival, RCMP were advised that an unknown male had tried to enter the residence by kicking-in the back door. The homeowners were present and discharged a firearm towards the suspect. The suspect then fled and attempted to get into vehicles located on the property, but was unsuccessful, subsequently leaving on foot.

Officers patrolled the area and located the stolen Ford F150 near the residence where the break and enter occurred. It was noted that the truck had significant damage.

Members say that Police Service Dog Stewie, along with a drone, were able to quickly track the male suspect. The suspect was soon after found hiding along a brush line at a neighbouring property and was arrested without incident.

RCMP report that 27-year-old James Rundle-Hobden, from Selkirk, was remanded in custody and is facing numerous charges related to this incident. Charges include theft of motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, dangerous operation of a conveyance, failure to stop after an accident, mischief, flight from police, break and enter with intent, and failing to comply with a release order.
