A 38-year-old Mathias Colomb Cree Nation man is facing numerous charges after being arrested in connection to an attempted armed robbery incident in The Pas.

The Pas RCMP recently responded to an armed robbery in progress at a bank located in The Pas. Information provided to police was that a male suspect had entered the bank, displayed a firearm and demanded money from the teller. The teller noted that the firearm being held was clearly a fake and refused to provide any money to the suspect and then called police.

Officers, who were near the bank when the call came in, responded and confronted the suspect who had just entered the vestibule.

Police say that the 38-year-old male suspect was placed under arrest while refusing to comply with the officers demands. After a brief struggle, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

RCMP report that 38-year-old Norman Castel of Mathias Colomb Cree Nation, was charged with robbery and failing to comply with a probation order. Castel was subsequently released for a future court date in The Pas.
