The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has concluded its investigation into an officer-involved shooting in the Rural Municipality (RM) of North Cypress-Langford.
On May 12, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) notified the IIU of an incident that occurred that same day at approximately 9:21pm.
According to the notification, Carberry RCMP received a complaint of a person acting erratically and walking in traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway in the RM of North Cypress-Langford. Officers arrived on scene and told the woman she was under arrest. The woman was non-compliant and produced an edged weapon. An officer discharged a firearm, striking the woman. She was transported to Brandon Regional Health Centre for treatment, then transferred to Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg.
The affected person had charges pending before the court as a result of this incident, which have now been disposed of.
