Oakbank RCMP are reporting that human remains were recently discovered in a vehicle destroyed by fire in the Rural Municipality of Springfield.
On January 14, 2026, just after 10:30pm, Oakbank RCMP were called after a truck was seen on fire at a location near Briercliffe Road, east of Oakbank.
Officers, along with the Springfield Fire Department, arrived at the scene minutes after being called. Once on scene, members observed a truck fully engulfed in flames in a ditch at the side of the road.
Police say that once firefighters extinguished the fire, human remains were located inside the vehicle. Subsequently, an autopsy and review of dental records were ordered to positively identify the victim.
RCMP report that investigation is ongoing to determine whether icy road conditions may have factored into the vehicle going off the side of the road.
