The Manitoba government has announced that it is investing over $359,000 in winter festivals this season, as festivals bring communities together, strengthen local economies and highlight Manitoba’s diversity.
“Festivals connect people, celebrate community spirit and support local businesses,” said Sport, Culture, Heritage and Tourism Minister Nellie Kennedy. “Our government is proud to help communities host events that strengthen neighbourhoods, attract visitors and showcase Manitoba’s culture, especially through Manitoba’s winters.”
Funding to support festivals and celebrations across the province comes from the Community Festivals and Events program for signature community events, as well as through dedicated funding for major stand-alone festivals. These events bring people together, strengthen local pride and boost economic activity in communities of all sizes. With festivals happening year-round, Manitobans have ongoing opportunities to connect, celebrate culture and enjoy the vibrant spirit that makes Manitoba special, the minister noted.
The Manitoba government invested $882,300 in 49 summer festivals, playing an important role in supporting local businesses and lifting community spirits.
These festival investments help communities deliver high-quality events that reflect and celebrate local character, showcase Manitoba’s cultural diversity and foster a sense of identity and pride, the minister noted.
