Pembina Valley RCMP are reporting that two men from Winkler have recently died as the result of a multi-vehicle collision that occurred near Roland, Manitoba.
On March 6, 2026, at approximately 7:35pm, Pembina Valley RCMP responded to a multi-vehicle collision that occurred just north of the intersection at Highway 428 and Road 19 North, in the RM of Roland.
Investigation determined that two trucks had stopped in the southbound highway lane to assist a male who had driven his car off the road into a ditch. As this was occurring, a 17-year-old female driver, driving a southbound vehicle, didn’t immediately recognize that the trucks had been stopped on the road. The female then swerved to miss the truck that was in her lane, clipped one of the stopped trucks, and subsequently went off the highway, colliding with the back of the car that was already in the ditch.
Police say that two males who had been standing in the ditch, the 44-year-old owner of the first car and a 73-year-old from one of the trucks, were seriously injured in the collision and died as a result.
RCMP report that the 17-year-old female driver, along with her passenger, another 17-year-old female, were taken to Boundary Trails Health Centre as a precaution.
Members noted that no other injuries were reported in this incident, and that road conditions were icy at the time of the collision.
