The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating serious injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision following a pursuit in Winnipeg.

On May 6, 2026, the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) notified the IIU of an incident that occurred the same day at approximately 9:17 a.m. According to the notification, an adult male attended the 900 block of Main Street and stole a company vehicle. The male fled the scene in the stolen truck tractor. At approximately 9:26am, WPS located the vehicle near Salter Street and Jefferson Avenue. Officers briefly pursued the stolen vehicle, but the pursuit was terminated at approximately 9:29am at the direction of the duty officer.

Following the aborted pursuit, the stolen truck tractor continued and was involved in a motor vehicle collision near the intersection of Inkster Boulevard and Arlington Street. The collision involved two civilian vehicles and resulted in injuries to three individuals, with at least one individual sustaining a serious injury. The driver of the stolen vehicle was taken into custody and is being held at WPS headquarters. He did not sustain any apparent injuries as a result of the incident.

As this incident involved serious injuries, as defined under the IIU regulation, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
