The governments of Canada and Manitoba have launched the new Building Up Manitoba Program (BUMP), which will enhance support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and their employees.
“As the world of work is changing and bringing new challenges, workers and businesses are key to the success of Canada’s ambition,” said federal Jobs and Families Minister Patty Hajdu. “That’s why we are supporting business to equip workers with the tools and training they need in a rapidly changing labour market. Together, we are empowering Manitoban workers to grow, thrive and prosper.”
BUMP is funded by $4 million through the Canada-Manitoba Labour Market Transfer Agreements and will integrate key components of the Canada-Manitoba Job Grant and the Workforce Development Program to streamline service delivery.
“We know there is continued uncertainty in the global economy, which is why our government is committed to supporting Manitoba workers and businesses.” said Manitoba Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation Minister Jamie Moses. “This program will provide the necessary funding for a resilient economy that will protect the jobs of Manitobans and adapt/prepare our workforce for the economy of the future.”
Small and medium-sized enterprises with fewer than 500 employees make up 99 per cent of Manitoba businesses and are a key part of Manitoba’s economy. The program will provide eligible businesses with up to $100,000 to support employee training, workforce upskilling, and the development of comprehensive human resources strategies. This investment helps ensure that employer training initiatives deliver meaningful results for Manitoba workers.
The employee training stream will provide up to $10,000 per employee to support upskilling or reskilling for current employees, helping them move into better jobs. It also supports training that helps laid-off, unemployed or underemployed individuals secure full-time, permanent employment.
The human resources strategy development stream offers up to $25,000 to help businesses assess workforce needs, develop effective training plans and implementing strategies that support long‑term growth and resilience.
