Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services is currently investigating the recent death of a four-year-old female child that occurred at a residence located in Long Plain First Nation.
On August 9, 2026, at 7:45am, Manitoba First Nation Police Service (MFNPS) officers were requested by EMS to attend a residence in Long Plain First Nation after a young child was reported to be in medical distress with injuries.
Officers arrived at the residence and assisted EMS with medical care. Despite their efforts, the child was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police say that two female children, ages one and two, were also in the residence and were transported to hospital due to their condition. One was transported in critical condition and the other in stable condition. Officers noted that both children are now in stable condition.
Due to the suspicious nature of the four-year-old child’s death and the serious injuries to the two children, Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services (MCS) was called to assist and has taken carriage of the investigation.
“This is extremely troubling, and we know the community will be searching for answers as to what occurred within this household,” said Superintendent Rob Lasson, Officer in Charge of Major Crime Services. “We want to reassure the community that our investigators are working closely with MFNPS and Long Plain First Nation. We extend our condolences to the family, the community and everyone affected by this tragedy.”
Manitoba RCMP MCS and Forensic Identification Services with the assistance of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continue to investigate this incident.
