Selkirk RCMP are currently investigating the death of a 30-year-old man resulting from a recent assault incident that occurred at a local residence.
On August 23, 2026, at 12:07am, Selkirk RCMP received a report of a possible assault inside a residence located on Dufferin Avenue in Selkirk. Officers responded immediately and arrived to find a number of individuals inside and outside the residence. Inside, they located an adult male who was suffering from a gunshot wound.
Police say that EMS attended the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
Initial investigation by Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services (MCS) determined the death to be a homicide. Officers from Selkirk, Oakbank, Red River North RCMP detachments, along with Manitoba RCMP Forensic Identification Services, and Police Dog Services all assisted in the investigation.
RCMP report that the suspect, 30-year-old Justin Linklater, of Selkirk, was arrested without incident at the scene. Linklater is now facing charges of second-degree murder and was remanded prior to his court appearance.
MCS and Selkirk RCMP continue to investigate this crime.
