Manitoba RCMP are reporting that two individuals were recently injured as the result of an accident where a small plane went off the runway at the Portage la Prairie Airport.
On September 20, 2026, at approximately 4:10pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of an incident involving a small aircraft at the Portage la Prairie Airport. As a result, officers, along with paramedics and local firefighters, responded to the scene.
Police investigation determined that a small plane was taking off from the runway during an air show when the aircraft malfunctioned. The pilot aborted the take-off and attempted to bring the aircraft to a safe stop, but it drove off the end of the runway and subsequently went into the ditch.
RCMP report that the pilot, a 61-year-old male, along with a 54-year-old female passenger, were transported to hospital in Portage la Prairie for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada was notified of the incident.
