Portage la Prairie RCMP are reporting that a 19-year-old male suspect was recently arrested and charged in connection to an incident involving a cap gun being fired at woman.
On October 13, 2026, at approximately 5:15pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report that a male suspect had pointed a cap gun at a female and shot at her at a location on the 1800-block of Saskatchewan Avenue West, in Portage la Prairie.
Investigation determined that someone inside a truck yelled out at a 31-year-old female as she tended to her child. The female then turned towards the suspect, who was pointing as what appeared to be a firearm, and fired.
Police say that no one was injured during this incident and that the suspect and victim were not known to each another.
Officers subsequently patrolled the area, located the truck and initiated a traffic stop on the 600-block of 9th Street Northwest. Three male suspects were arrested at the scene as a result.
Members then searched the truck and seized three cap guns, including one where the orange tip was removed, making it appear closer in resemblance to a firearm. Also seized was an assortment of ammunition and caps.
RCMP report that 19-year-old Jamie Strong, of Portage la Prairie, is now facing multiple charges, including uttering threats and using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence. Strong was remanded into custody and the other two males were released without charge.
