The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) has concluded its investigation into an incident in Portage la Prairie in which an adult male was injured after being struck by a police vehicle.
On March 26, 2025, RCMP officers observed two people who matched the description of suspects involved in an earlier criminal incident. One officer spoke with an adult female while an adult male left the scene on a bicycle. Believing the adult male was under arrest and fleeing, a second officer activated emergency lights and struck the adult male with a police vehicle on St. George Avenue between Cochrane and Eighth Street West.
As a result of the investigation, RCMP Cst. Wail Mohamed has been charged with one count of operating a conveyance in a manner dangerous to the public contrary to Sec. 320.13(2) of the Criminal Code and one count of assault with a weapon contrary to Sec. 267(a) of the code.
The IIU issued a statement on March 27, 2025, advising that it had launched an investigation into the incident.
