Marc A. Moir’s award winning one man play “Padre X” will be performed on two nights this November at the Steinbach Bible College Chapel.

“Padre X” is the amazing true story of John Weir Foote; the only Canadian chaplain to win the Victoria Cross during WWII. After sneaking along on the disastrous Dieppe raid, Foot acted heroically; crossing the blood and fire soaked beaches to rescue his wounded comrades. Foote then refused evacuation, opting to stay behind as a POW so he could continue to care for the wounded (and others) who had been left behind. He would be a POW for 3 years. For his valour Foote was awarded the Victoria Cross in 1946.

Marc A. Moir (formerly of Winnipeg, who now resides in Mitchell, MB) wrote “Padre X” in 2008 and has been performing the play since 2009. He has appeared in theatres across Canada as well as in churches, schools, legions and military bases.

“Padre X” has received rave reviews from audiences and critics alike and won numerous awards including Best of Fest at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival (2010); Outstanding Drama at the Ottawa Fringe Festival (2011) and was the runner up for the Harry Rintoul Memorial Award for best new Manitoba play in 2010.

Moir will be appearing for two nights; Friday November 3rd and Saturday November 4th (7pm) at the Steinbach Bible College Chapel (50 PTH 12 North). Tickets are $40 (coffee and desert included in price) and available at Rocco’s Pizza – 23 Brandt Street in Steinbach – or by calling 204-355-8360.

These two shows are being sponsored as a fundraiser by the Provencher Conservative Electoral District Association.
