A 4-year-old child has died as a result of an agricultural accident that occurred at a property located near Lorette, Manitoba.

On Saturday, June 23, 2018, at approximately 3:35pm, officers from the St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP responded to a report of a 4-year-old child being seriously injured at a residence located in the RM of Tache, approximately six kilometres north-west of Lorette, MB.

Police investigation has determined that a 63-year-old RM of Tache woman was operating an acreage tractor and pulling a utility trailer loaded with a water tank. The 4-year-old male child was riding in the utility trailer when the trailer came loose and rolled back into the ditch.

RCMP report that the child was rushed to hospital but later pronounced deceased.

Officers from the St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP Detachment along with an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continue to investigate this incident.

Update

Further RCMP investigation has determined that the acreage tractor was not in operation when the incident occurred. The tractor had come to a stop as the trailer had become unhitched. As an attempt was made to reposition the trailer prior to re-attaching it, it rolled back into the ditch.
