Lac du Bonnet RCMP are currently searching for a swimmer that went missing on August 27, 2018 in the Whiteshell Provincial Park.

On August 27, 2018, at approximately 2:45pm, Lac du Bonnet RCMP received a report of a male who has not returned after swimming to retrieve a boat blown away from the shoreline of Strawberry Island on the Winnipeg River in the Whiteshell Provincial Park.

“Navigating a boat north on the Winnipeg River to reach the remote site is not possible due to low water levels along that part of the river system,” said Corporal Chad Yerex, Lac Du Bonnet RCMP Detachment Commander. “We went up in a helicopter with Sustainable Development to do an aerial search. More officers have flown to a campsite near Strawberry Island and are using local boats to search the waterways.”

RCMP, as well as resources from Manitoba Sustainable Development, continue to search for the 38-year-old male from Fisher Branch.
