Two men have been arrested and are facing numerous charges in relation to a number of recent armed robberies being investigated by Portage La Prairie RCMP.

On October 5, 2018, at 8:30pm, Portage La Prairie RCMP responded to a report of an armed robbery at a location on Tupper Street in Portage La Prairie. Police say that two people were walking home from work when two males on bikes approached them. The two males held them at knifepoint, while taking multiple items from them, including a cell phone, debit card, money and a backpack. The males then fled.

While RCMP were investigating this incident, another armed robbery was reported in the area. In this incident, the suspects used a screwdriver. Officers responded to the area and were able to locate and arrest two suspects who matched the descriptions given earlier. The suspects were searched upon arrest and most of the stolen items were located. The screwdriver they used in the second robbery was also located.

After further investigation, RCMP obtained a search warrant for a residence located on 2nd Street NW in Portage La Prairie. Inside that residence, the stolen backpack was recovered.

RCMP report that 20-year-old Christian Meeches of Long Plain First Nation and 20-year-old Harlen Hart of Winniepg were arrested. Both suspects are facing numerous charges. Meeches and Hart were both remanded into custody.
