Selkirk RCMP have recently arrested a 17-year-old male student after he was found to be in possession of a firearm and ammunition at a local school.

On October 16, 2018, at approximately 11am, Selkirk RCMP were dispatched to the Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary School, responding a report of a student with a firearm. Police say that a student was reported to be in possession of a firearm and ammunition which he was carrying in a backpack. As a result, the school went into lockdown.

RCMP report that the suspect, a 17-year-old male student, was safely taken into custody without incident. A firearm and ammunition were seized as a result. Police noted that there were no injuries to students or staff during the incident.

As a result of investigation, the 17-year-old youth from Selkirk is facing numerous charges including possession of weapon for dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon. He has been remanded into custody.
