Manitoba RCMP are reporting that multiple charges have already been laid since cannabis became legal on October 17, 2018.

On October 19, 2018, Winnipegosis and Dauphin RCMP executed a Controlled Drug and Substances Act warrant at a residence on Bridge Street in Winnipegosis, Manitoba. Upon entry into the home, officers found a large illicit cannabis grow operation. Police say that a total of 94 cannabis plants in various stages of growth were seized.

RCMP report that Ronald Allan Sobotkiewicz is facing numerous charges under the Cannabis Act, including possession of illicit cannabis.

Since cannabis became legal on October 17, 2018, until October 24, 2018, RCMP have laid multiple charges including:

  • Unlawful Transport in or on a Vehicle x 12
  • Consume Cannabis in a Vehicle x 2
  • Consumption of Cannabis by a Young Person
  • Possessing Illicit Cannabis x 3 (this includes a 16-year-old selling at a school)
  • Impaired by Drug

RCMP would like to remind all Manitobans that cannabis cannot be grown at home in Manitoba – it can only be purchased from approved distributors as outlined in the federal Cannabis Act and the provincial Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Control Act. To transport cannabis in a vehicle, it must be secured outside the passenger compartment, or under the furthest seat away from the driver in a van or SUV.
