Two Stony Mountain Institution inmates are facing first degree murder charges after being involved in an altercation at the facility.

On November 2, 2018, at 8:25pm, Stonewall RCMP received a report of an unresponsive male located in his cell at Stony Mountain Institution. Officers were advised that a 26-year-old male inmate suffered life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased at the scene after an altercation with two other inmates.

RCMP have arrested and charged two males in relation to this homicide. 47-year-old Todd Jeffrey Irving and 26-year-old Cory Edward Derdak have each been charged with first degree murder and have been remanded into custody.

RCMP officers from the Stonewall Detachment, along with RCMP Major Crime Services, continue to investigate this incident.
