The City of Steinbach will be sending out a test message to residents using the Steinbach Alert Now Emergency Notification System on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, between 5pm and 6pm. Residents who have not signed up for the service are encouraged to do so at www.steinbachalertnow.ca before the test.
“We want to ensure the system is working the way we need it to,” said Denis Vassart, Emergency Planning Coordinator for Steinbach. “It will serve as a reminder for residents who have signed up to keep their account and contact information up-to-date.”
During the test notification, residents and businesses may receive a combination of email, voice and text messages and they will be given instructions on how to confirm receipt of the messages. This will be important during a real emergency to gauge how many citizens have been informed of the situation.
For those people who have not signed up, but receive a test notification call on their home or business phone, it’s important they complete the full sign-up so the city can contact them using the most efficient method – cell phone, text message or email – during an emergency.
“The service is only as good as the contact information we have,” says Vassart. “Signing up is the only way to guarantee you will receive notifications during an emergency.”
The city completes bi-annual testing of the Steinbach Alert Now system in the spring and fall. For more information about Steinbach Alert Now visit www.steinbachalertnow.ca or call 204-346-6575.
