Steinbach RCMP have announced that a new bicycle registration initiative has begun. Local bicycle owners can now register their bicycles at the Steinbach RCMP Detachment in hopes that more stolen bicycles are returned to their owners.

In 2016, up to 80 bicycles were reported stolen in Steinbach and the surrounding area. Steinbach RCMP say that up to 50 bicycles are recovered each year, with less than 10 percent being returned to their owners.

With the new registration program – if your stolen bicycle is located – you will be notified and arrangements can be made for you to get your bicycle back.

Steinbach RCMP have partnered with a few local bicycle shops as part of the new initiative. At the time of purchase, you can register your bike and the registration will be forwarded to the Steinbach RCMP and added to the registry.

To locate the serial number of your bicycle, look closely at the frame for the imprinted number. Record the serial number exactly as shown on the bike.

Bicycle registration is free, just fill out the form at the Steinbach RCMP Detachment. If your bicycle is stolen, please notify the Steinbach RCMP Detachment.
