Funds continue to flow into communities around the province from the Manitoba Heritage Trust Program that supports local museums as they proudly update their programming or tackle projects designed to showcase the province’s history.

“We have so much to celebrate in our province; museums play a key role in showcasing Manitoba’s unique stories, while preserving our rich and diverse history,” Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Cathy Cox said. “By targeting community-based projects that already have strong local support, we can work together ensure these facilities can thrive and be enjoyed by all Manitobans for years to come.”

A variety of projects in the central and Westman areas will receive support from this latest round of Heritage Trust commitments. From Fort la Reine Museum, Pioneer Village and Tourist Bureau in Portage la Prairie to Daly House in Brandon, and the Manitoba Antique Auto Museum in Elkhorn, museums and archives around central and southwest Manitoba have completed successful fundraising efforts and will receive their portion of funding under the Heritage Trust. Based on community fundraising of just over $126,267, the province will contribute $63,133 for a total investment in museums and archives of $189,400.

“We are pleased to support this kind of partnership with local organizations and demonstrate our commitment to investing in museums all across the province,” Municipal Relations Minister Jeff Wharton said. “When community’s show how much their museums mean to them, the province is there to show its support as well through the Heritage Trust Program.”

The Heritage Trust Program offers provincial support with matching grants of one dollar for every two dollars raised by community museums and archives.

“Across the province, Manitobans are seeing the value in establishing an endowment fund today, to help preserve their past for the future to enjoy,” said Rick Frost, CEO of the Winnipeg Foundation. “These new fund collaborations between museums, archives and their local community foundations will help ensure our shared history is here for all, for generations to come.”

The Manitoba Heritage Trust Program is administered by The Winnipeg Foundation.
