A 94-year-old Steinbach woman suffered only minor injuries after the scooter she was driving was struck by a vehicle while crossing Main Street at Kroeker Avenue.

On July 18, 2019 at approximately 10:52am, Steinbach RCMP came across a collision at the crosswalk at Kroeker Avenue and Main Street in Steinbach.

Police investigation determined that a 94-year-old Steinbach woman had been crossing Main Street at the Kroeker Avenue crosswalk on a motorized scooter. As she was crossing, a westbound Ford Focus struck the scooter causing it to tip over. The 54-year-old female driver of the vehicle did apply breaks, however could not avoid colliding with the scooter.

Police say that the injuries to the woman’s head and arm were minor and that she was later transported to hospital via ambulance for further medical attention.

RCMP report that the crosswalk lights had not been activated at the time and the westbound vehicle’s view had been obstructed by another vehicle. Alcohol is not being considered a factor in this incident.

Police would like to thank all those that rendered assistance during this incident and remind everyone that the crosswalk lights need to be activated before crossing the street.
