The Steinbach Credit Union (SCU) Board of Directors has announced that past Steinbach Mayor Chris Goertzen has been appointed as Director.

Chris Goertzen is the owner and co-founder of Main Bread and Butter Company, which has operated in downtown Steinbach since 1997. In addition to the SCU Board of Directors, he currently serves on the Executive of River Trail Development Corporation, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Bethesda Foundation, where he is the Chair of the Governance Committee.

Chris served as mayor of the City of Steinbach for three terms from 2006 until 2018. During his tenure, Steinbach became one of the fastest growing cities in Canada. He has also served as President of the Association of Manitoba Municipalities from 2015 until 2018, as well as serving on the Executive of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the Municipal Employee Pension Board from 2014 to 2018.

The Board has appointed Chris to this term in accordance with SCU Board bylaws. With Chris’s appointment, the Board is now comprised of eight directors, including Reg Penner as the Chairman, Henry Van de Velde as First Vice-Chair, and Maria Reimer as Second Vice-Chair.
