Three people are missing as the result of a recent airplane crash that occurred northeast of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

On October 26, 2019, at approximately at 8:36 am, Little Grand Rapids RCMP received a report of a plane crash at a location approximately 280 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg. Witnesses say that the plane clipped a tree before going into the water.

RCMP Search and Rescue, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team and a search and rescue plane from RCAF 435 Squadron in Winnipeg, all attended the scene.

Police say that plane debris has been located in Family Lake, near Little Grand Rapids, Manitoba.

RCMP report that search on shore and in the water is ongoing with assistance from the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team.

Update

On October 27, 2019, divers with the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team recovered the body of a 49-year-old male from Family Lake. He has been identified as one of two passengers in the nine-seat Otter float plane at the time of the crash. The 39-year-old male pilot and a 42-year-old male passenger remain unaccounted for.

On November 5, 2019, the two remaining bodies, the 42-year-old male passenger from Winnipeg and the 39-year-old male pilot from Bissett, were located in Family Lake. The body of the 39-year-old was removed from the water on the night of November 4, and efforts are currently underway to recover the body of the 42-year-old.

The investigation has now been turned over to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
