On January 18, 2020, at approximately 5:40pm, RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 11, approximately four kilometres east of Highway 59.

Initial police investigation has determined that a car traveling west on Highway 11, collided head-on with a truck traveling east. The driver of the car, a 19-year-old male from Traverse Bay, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger, a 16-year-old male from Traverse Bay, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the truck, a 65-year-old male from St. Georges, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

RCMP report that alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this accident. It is believed that both occupants of the westbound car were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. Poor visibility and icy conditions are also believed to be contributing factors in this incident.
