Selkirk RCMP have arrested a 36-year-old man in connection to a serious vehicle collision that occurred near Libau, Manitoba.

On March 8, 2020, at approximately 9:20pm, Selkirk RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 59, just south of Libau.

Police say that a pickup truck, traveling east on Road 32E, entered the intersection and collided with an SUV going south on Highway 59. The driver of the pickup truck stopped briefly to check on the other driver, but then left the scene on foot. The driver of the SUV, a 74-year-old male from the RM of Alexander, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Officers made patrols of the area and located a vehicle near the suspect’s residence in the RM of Brokenhead. The suspect was located in the passenger seat of the vehicle, and was arrested without incident.

RCMP report that the suspect, a 36-year-old male, is now facing Criminal Code charges of failing to stop at the scene of an accident, impaired operation of a conveyance (by alcohol) and impaired operation of a conveyance (by alcohol) with a blood alcohol concentration that is equal to or exceeds 80 mg%. The suspect was also issued several tickets under the Highway Traffic Act.
