For a second straight year STARS will be taking to the airwaves in Winnipeg for the Critical Care on the Air Radiothon.

Broadcasting May 27 on 103.1 Virgin Radio, 99.9 Bob FM and TSN 1290, the radiothon will feature stories from STARS’ crew members, allies, and our Very Important Patients. The event will begin at 6 a.m. and run until 6 p.m. across the three stations.

“Our first radiothon in 2019 was a tremendous success as we raised much-needed operational funding as well as awareness of the importance of STARS to Winnipeg and area residents.” said Lori Derksen, development officer, events. “We look forward to working with the talented staff at the stations again this year.”

Colleen Mayer, STARS Director of Development, Manitoba, said the money raised during the 2020 radiothon carries an added importance as the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic has greatly hindered the non-profit organization’s ability to fundraise.

“Despite the pandemic, STARS continues to average one to two missions a day in Manitoba,” Mayer said. “As the missions continue, so too does the need to fundraise to support that work. The pandemic has forced the postponement or cancellation of the events we rely on for funding, which has created significant challenges for our organization. Every dollar we raise Wednesday will make a difference in our mission of saving lives in Manitoba. It helps purchase personal protective equipment for our team, puts fuel in the helicopter and provides our team with the best medical equipment available. Most importantly it helps ensure the next time you, or someone you love needs us, STARS will be there.”

There are three ways to contribute during the radiothon: online at criticalcareontheair.ca; by calling 1-877-57-STARS (577-8277) or by texting STARS to 45678 to make a $20 donation.
