On December 17, 2016, at approximately 7:45 pm, Thompson RCMP responded to a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Provincial Road 280, about 18 kilometres west of Split Lake, Manitoba.

Police investigation revealed that a pedestrian was walking northbound in the middle of the gravel highway when he was struck by a northbound pickup truck. Police noted that it was dark at the time of the collision.

RCMP report that the pedestrian, a 53-year-old male resident of Split Lake, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck, a 55-year-old woman from Split Lake, along with her passengers, were not injured in the collision.

The driver of the pickup truck was reported to be sober at the time of the incident. An RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist and the Criminal Crash Investigative Team are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
