On January 4, 2021, at 7:30am, Morris RCMP responded to a report of a semi-trailer that had hit the ditch on Highway 59, located approximately two kilometres north of Roseau River in the RM of Emerson-Franklin.

Police say that the driver of the semi, a 64-year-old Ile des Chenes man, was not injured in the incident and advised officers that while traveling south along Highway 59, he struck a farm tractor on the Highway that he had not seen.

The collision resulted in the farm tractor being pushed a considerable distance off the Highway and into the wooded area with the semi following behind. As a result, the semi’s trailer rolled onto its side.

RCMP report that the driver of the farm tractor, a 72-year-old man from the RM of Emerson-Franklin, was pronounced deceased on scene.

Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in this collision and Morris RCMP, along with the Criminal Collision Investigation Team and a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
