Steinbach RCMP are reporting that a suspect has been arrested and is facing numerous charges in connection to an investigation involving the theft of a motorcycle.

On the evening of September 5, 2021, while out on patrols in the RM of Ste. Anne, Steinbach RCMP observed a motorcycle leaving a residence. Officers checked the license plate and learned that it was a stolen license plate from a trailer. The officer attempted to pull the motorcycle over, but the motorcycle fled. The motorcycle, which was discovered to have been stolen, was later located without the suspect.

Steinbach RCMP say that while searching for the suspect, officers cleared buildings at a residence and located two stolen motorcycles.

On the same evening, while in RM of Ste. Anne, officers were dispatched to a break and enter. Members were still on scene when the suspect from the break and enter returned to his residence. The suspect observed the officers and slowly approached them in his truck.

Steinbach RCMP attempted to pull the suspect over, but the suspect accelerated his truck and drove head-on at the RCMP.  Officers attempted to block the highway so the suspect could not flee, but the suspect continued at a high rate of speed towards the police cruiser. The suspect, at the last minute, veered to the back of the police cruiser, just missing it. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and became airborne, landing on the lawn of another residence as a result.

Police say that the suspect’s truck came to a stop when it collided with a parked boat. The suspect then fled from police on foot, where he was later arrested several residences away.

RCMP report that Larry Friesen has been charged with numerous offences including breaking and entering with intent and possession of property obtained by crime. Friesen was remanded in custody, but has since been released by the courts.

Steinbach RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect who fled on the motorcycle. The suspect is described as male, wearing a black helmet, black nylon jacket, blue jeans and black work boots.
