The Manitoba government has prosecuted a Winnipeg-based employer for violations of The Workplace Safety and Health Act and its associated regulations that resulted in serious injury.

In an incident on June 27, 2019, a worker at Winnipeg-based Canadian Tool & Die Ltd. was making adjustments to a machine used in the fabrication of wheel rims. While reaching into the machine, the worker’s hand triggered a sensor which activated the machine and resulted in the partial amputation of two fingers.

Following the investigation by Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) officials, Canadian Tool & Die Ltd. was fined $12,500 and an additional $1,000 penalty payable to WSH to be used to educate the public about occupational safety and health.
