Steinbach RCMP are asking the public for any information that may help identify a suspect in a recent attempted child luring incident that occurred at a local park within the city.

On September 18, 2021, at approximately 8:20pm, Steinbach RCMP received a report of an attempted child luring incident at the Kimberly Bay Park in Steinbach, Manitoba.

Police say that three children, a 10 and 13-year-old female, as well as a 10-year-old male, were playing at the playground structure when a man of approximately 60 years of age approached them. The male was in a dark-coloured four-door car and told the girls to get in his vehicle. The children then ran away from the park through the neighbourhood. The suspect followed them and kept trying to get them inside his vehicle, and at one point, exited the vehicle.

RCMP report that the incident lasted for approximately eight minutes and the children were able to get to a safe location and call police. Their were no physical injuries reported as a result of the incident.

Officers immediately patrolled the area, but no vehicle matching the description provided by the children was located.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, approximately 5’8″ tall, having a grey beard, grey eyebrows and very short grey hair with a receding hairline.

Steinbach RCMP have determined that the attempted child luring did not occur as reported.
