With the increasing size and excitement surrounding Steinbach’s annual Pioneers Day parade, the Steinbach Chamber of Commerce will be placing more focus on safety starting in 2026.
“Safety is our number one priority,” said Executive Director Tessa Masi. “With more floats, more spectators, and more participation each year, we’re updating a few of our guidelines to help ensure a safe and fun experience for everyone.”
The parade committee is asking for increased support from the community, especially from parents and guardians, to help keep kids safely behind designated barrier tape along the parade route.
New Safety Guidelines for 2026:
- Age Restriction for Participants Walking Alongside Vehicles:
- Children under the age of 10 are no longer permitted to walk alongside vehicles or throw candy during the parade. This is to prevent accidents involving moving floats and vehicles.
Candy Distribution:
- Candy needs to be distributed at the designated barrier tape or area kids are waiting behind. It cannot be thrown onto the road. Businesses distributing candy need to encourage kids to stay off the road and can never hand out items from their vehicle or float for people to come get.
Officials say that they are actively seeking 30 parent and community volunteers to help monitor the barricade zones along the parade route. Volunteers will help ensure children stay safely behind the tape and enjoy the parade from a safe distance.
“We know that the parade is a cherished tradition and we want to keep it safe and enjoyable for everyone – especially our kids,” said Masi. “That means working together as a community.”
