Steinbach RCMP are reporting that a 30-year-old Mitchell, Manitoba man has been arrested and charged in connection to a recent robbery incident that occurred at park located on Giesbrecht Street in Steinbach.
On October 4, 2025, at 2:55am, Steinbach RCMP received a report of a robbery that had occurred approximately six hours prior at a local park. Through police investigation, officers learned that a female had been getting ready to leave the park in her vehicle when a male suspect forced himself into her vehicle. The suspect, who was known to the female, was holding bear mace and threatening her.
Police say that the victim, a 43-year-old woman from La Broquerie, was able to escape, but the suspect continued to follow her in the vehicle. The suspect eventually continued on, stealing her vehicle, keys, and cell phone in the process. Members noted that the victim suffered minor but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of this incident.
At approximately 3:15pm, Steinbach RCMP located the stolen vehicle in La Broquerie. The driver attempted to flee the scene, hitting a parked vehicle in the process. The suspect then drove into a ditch and ended up getting stuck.
Officers approached the stuck vehicle and arrested the driver without incident. It was noted that the driver had been carrying a knife, which fell from his person upon arrest.
Police were able to confirm that the driver, a 30-year-old male from Mitchell, was the wanted suspect. Officers subsequently recovered the cell phone, keys, and bear mace. Also discovered was a quantity of methamphetamine that was ready to be sold.
RCMP report that Cody Hartog has been remanded into custody and is facing multiple assault and weapons related charges connected to this incident.
