A 38-year Steinbach man has been arrested and charged in connection to a recent stabbing incident that occurred in Carrick, Manitoba, located in the Rural Municipality of Piney.
On December 2, 2025, at 12:45pm, Sprague RCMP received a report of a stabbing in Carrick. Officers immediately responded to the scene and were advised that the victim had been driven to Woodridge where they met with EMS at a business located on Provincial Road 210.
Police say that a 52-year-old male victim had been stabbed in the neck and mouth by an acquaintance at a residence in Carrick. The victim was then transported to hospital via STARS where he immediately went into surgery.
At 1:13pm, Sprague RCMP received a report from CN Railway, indicating that they could see a male suspect damaging railroad crossing arms at a location in Carrick. Officers responded immediately and were flagged down by a truck traveling on Provincial Road 203. Members noted that the truck had picked up a male on the side of the road who was acting strange.
RCMP report that the male inside the truck matched the description of the suspect from the stabbing, as well as the CN Rail report, and was immediately arrested. As a result, 38-year-old Kerry Hiebert, from Steinbach, was charged and remanded into custody for aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and two counts of mischief over $5,000.
Sprague RCMP noted that the victim remains in hospital in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
